ENGINE OVERHEATING CHECK FOR LOOSE AIR DEFLECTOR

1985-87 FIREBIRD TRANS AM AND GTA MODELS

Engine overheating on 1985-87 Firebird Trans Am and GTA models may be due to the air deflector being damaged. To repair this condition in the field a new center air deflector has been released.

Service Procedure

2. From the center air deflector cut out two reinforcement plates (see Figure 1).

3. Install the air deflector, P/N 14083929, and the two fabricated reinforcement plates (see Figure 2) . Install the two cut out reinforcement plates exactly the way they were originally installed.

4. Cut the original air .deflector as shown in Figure 2, allowing approximately 10.0 mm overlap of side deflector. Install side air deflectors using the original attachments. Push the side deflector ends behind the center deflector.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
