SQUEAKS FROM REAR AREA OF FRT. DOORS - REPLACE WEDGE PLATE

SUBJECT: SQUEAKS FROM REAR OF DOORS (NEW BODY SIDE WEDGE PLATE)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1982-1991 'F' CARS WITH T-TOPS OR CONVERTIBLES

Condition:

---------- Some customers may comment about squeaks coming from the rear areas of front doors.

Cause:

------- May be due to metal portion of wedge plate system becoming dry and generating squeak noise.

Correction:

------------- Replace the body side portion of the wedge plate system with new plastic type available from CANSPO, P/N 10198229.

Procedure:

----------- 1. Remove original metal type body side wedge plate and gasket from the door opening and discard.

2. Install the new plastic type wedge plate to the body with the original screws and torque to 2.0 N.m (18 in.lbs.).

3. Check for proper contact by placing a piece of masking tape on the wedge plate and slowly closing the door. Open the door and check the tape for contact marks.

Important: Properly adjusted wedge plates should have approximately 1.0 mm of interference with the door in the full closed position.

Shims that locate behind the door portion wedge plate are available from CANSPO and come in the following thickness.

1.0mm - P/N 20452860

2.Omm - P/N 20452861
