ACCESSORY DRIVE/TENSIONER/AC COMPRESSOR RATTLE
Some 1988 Camaros and Firebirds equipped with 5.0L PFI (Port Fuel Injected) engine (VIN Code F), 5.0L TBI (Throttle Body Injected) (VIN Code E) or 5.7L PFI engine (VIN Code 8) and air conditioning, may experience a rattling noise from the accessory drive area with the air conditioning on, under high head pressure conditions.
This condition may be addressed by installation of kit, P/N 10105271.
This kit contains a shorter serpentine belt, P/N 14102103 and a label P/N 10105272, showing the revised belt routing to be used when installing this shorter belt. The revised belt routing is also shown below for reference.
Parts are currently available from GM PARTS.
After installation of the shorter belt with this new routing, the supplied label should be affixed to the serviced vehicle on top of the existing belt routing label, for reference at time of future service.
General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
