CONVERTIBLE REPLACEMENT PARTS NUMBER 2 BOW ACTUATOR

Subject: NUMBER TWO BOW ACTUATOR (REPLACEMENT PARTS AND PROCEDURE)

Models Affected: 1990-91 FIREBIRD CONVERTIBLE

Separate service kits are available to service the right hand and left hand number two bow actuators.

Each service kit contains the following parts (Figure 1): Right Hand Number Two Bow Actuator Service Kit - P/N 12504750 Left Hand Number Two Bow Actuator Service Kit - P/N 12504751

Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

- Jam Nuts (106 and 112) - Nuts (110 and 116) - Washers (107, 109, 113 and 115) - Number Two Bow Actuator (111)

The following procedure outlines how to properly replace the number two bow actuators, please note your Service Manuals accordingly.

NUMBER TWO BOW ACTUATOR

Figure I

Remove or Disconnect - Unlatch the number one bow. - Unlatch and raise the number five bow. - Raise the tonneau panel and lower the top halfway.

1. Jam nuts (106 and 112) from the number two bow pivot link (108) and number three bow center link (114) attachments.

2. Washers (107 and 113) from the number two bow pivot link (108) and number three bow center link (114) attachments.

3. Washers (109 and 115) from the number two bow actuator (111).

4. Number two bow actuator (111).

Install or Connect

1. Number two bow actuator (111) with washers (109 and 115) to the number two bow pivot link (108) and number three bow center link (I 14).

- The number two bow actuator (111) is supplied with nuts (110 and 116) already torqued to 5 N-m (45 lb. in.).

[!] Important

Be sure the number two bow actuator (111) curves away from the top cover.

- Do not reverse the direction of the number two bow actuator (111).

- The 3/4-inch bend side attaches to the number three bow center link (114) and faces outboard.

- The other side attaches to the number two bow pivot link (108) and faces inboard.

2. Washers (107 and 113). 3. Jam nuts (106 and 112).

[!] Important

- Note that jam nuts (106 and 112) have notches in the threads. Be sure they face away from the number two bow actuator (111) at either point of attachment.

- Tighten jam nuts (106 and 112) to number two bow actuator (111) and then back off 1/2 turn so that they do not restrict movement of the number two bow actuator (111).

NOTICE: Do not allow number two bow actuator (111) to bend (if improperly installed) or damage may result. Carefully test by raising or lowering top.

- Raise number five bow. - Lower tonneau panel. - Lower and latch number five bow. - Raise and latch number one bow.
