Subject: OIL PRESSURE GAGE FLUTTERS, OR MAY READ HIGH (REPLACE SENSOR)

Models Affected: 1990-91 6000, FIREBIRD, SUNBIRD, GRAND AM, GRAND PRIX AND TRANS SPORT MODELS

This bulletin is being revised to include Trans Sport models in the title of the bulletin. This bulletin cancels and replaces bulletin 91-8-19 issued 11/91. Please discard bulletin 91-8-19.

Condition:

---------- On vehicles with gages, the oil pressure gage may flutter, or may show unusually high oil pressure (full scale).

Cause:

------ The internal resistance wire in the sensor may not be properly supported, resulting in an intermittent open condition.

Correction:

----------- Check for normal causes of high oil pressure gage readings (high resistance or open circuit), such as a poor ground path caused by loose sensor mounting, oil cooler adapter loose, or poor electrical connections. If no cause can be found, replace the oil pressure sensor with the correct new part number from the attached chart.

Warranty Information:

Use existing labor operation N2220.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
