SERVICE GUILD: ADJ. TIRE PRESSURE DURING NEW VEHICLE

Subject: ADJUSTING TIRE PRESSURE DURING NEW VEHICLE PREP

Model and Year: ALL 1991 CAR MODELS, U VAN AND T TRUCKS

Currently, 1991 car models, U vans and T trucks are shipped to dealers with tire pressures from 241-283 kPa (35-41 psi). Tire pressures are set higher at the assembly plant primarily to assure proper bead seating. These processing pressures may be higher than recommended pressures.

As part of the new car delivery process (NVI-PDI), tire pressures are to be adjusted to the recommended tire pressure, as specified on the tire placard, to reduce the possibility of a harsh ride condition. To assure customer satisfaction, it is important that the tire pressures be properly adjusted before new car delivery.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
