Removal Procedure

Important: Always maintain cleanliness when servicing fuel system components.


    Object Number: 215749  Size: SH
  1. Relieve fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief .
  2. Remove the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
  3. Note the position of the strainer (5) for aid in installation.

  4. Object Number: 54511  Size: SH
  5. Support the reservoir with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand.
  6. Use a screwdriver to pry the strainer ferrule off the reservoir.
  7. Discard the strainer.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 215749  Size: SH
  1. Install the new strainer (5) to the reservoir.
  2. Support the reservoir with one hand and grasp the strainer with the other hand twisting the strainer into position.
  3. Reinstall the fuel sender assembly. Refer to Fuel Sender Assembly Replacement .
  4. Add fuel and reinstall the fuel fill cap.
  5. Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  6. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  7. Inspect for fuel leaks:
  8. 6.1. Turn the ignition switch ON for 2 seconds.
    6.2. Turn the ignition switch OFF for 10 seconds.
    6.3. Turn the ignition switch ON.
    6.4. Check for fuel leaks.
