DEFINITION:

A hissing noise is commonly heard when the steering wheel is turned and the vehicle is not moving. The noise especially noticeable if the brakes are applied. A replacement gear will also have a slight noise, and is not always a cure for the condition.

There is a hissing noise in the steering gear.

    • Inspect for loose intermediate steering shaft universal joints.
    • If the noise is very objectionable, replace the steering gear.
