Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Position the oil drain pan under the engine oil drain plug.

  3. Object Number: 190564  Size: SH
  4. Remove the engine oil drain plug.
  5. Clean and inspect the engine oil drain plug, replace if necessary.
  6. Clean and inspect the engine oil drain plug sealing surface on the oil pan, replace the oil pan if necessary.

  7. Object Number: 440847  Size: SH
  8. Remove the oil filter.
  9. Clean and inspect the oil filter sealing area on the oil filter adapter, replace if necessary. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter Removal .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 440847  Size: SH
  1. Lightly oil the replacement oil filter gasket with clean engine oil.
  2. Install a new engine oil filter.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the engine oil filter to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  4. Install the engine oil drain plug.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the engine oil drain plug to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  6. Remove the oil drain pan.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. Fill the engine with new engine oil. Refer to Approximate Fluid Capacities , Fluid and Lubricant Recommendations and Explanation of Scheduled Services in Maintenance and Lubrication.
  9. Start the engine.
  10. Inspect for oil leaks after engine start up.
  11. Turn off the engine and allow the oil a few minutes to drain back into the oil pan.
  12. Remove the oil level indicator from the oil indicator tube.
  13. Clean off the indicator end of the oil level indicator with a clean paper towel or cloth.
  14. Install the oil level indicator into the oil level indicator tube until the oil level indicator handle contacts the top of the oil level indicator tube.
  15. Again, remove the oil level indicator from the oil level indicator tube keeping the tip of the oil level indicator down.
  16. Check the level of the engine oil on the oil level indicator.
  17. If needed add or drain the engine oil to the correct level.
