Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 29714-A Servo Cover Depressor


    Object Number: 5426  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  3. Remove the torque arm. Refer to Torque Arm Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  4. Remove the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  5. Remove the catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to Converter Heat Shield Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  6. Lower the transmission.
  7. Remove the two oil pan bolts below the 2-4 servo cover.
  8. Install the J 29714-A to the oil pan rail.

  9. Object Number: 5427  Size: SH
  10. Tighten the bolt on the J 29714-A to compress the servo cover.

  11. Object Number: 207613  Size: SH
  12. Remove the servo cover retaining ring.
  13. Loosen the bolt on the J 29714-A to release tension on the servo cover.

  14. Object Number: 207615  Size: SH
  15. Remove the servo cover and O-ring seal. If the cover seems to be hung up on the seal, cut and remove the O-ring seal before removing the cover.
  16. Remove the 2-4 servo from the transmission.
  17. Inspect the 4th apply piston, 2-4 servo converter, 2nd apply piston, and the servo piston inner housing for the following defects:
  18. • Cracks
    • Scoring
    • Burrs and nicks

Installation Procedure

Tools Required

J 29714-A Servo Cover Depressor

  1. Install new seals on the servo pistons and the servo cover.

  2. Object Number: 207615  Size: SH
  3. Install the 2-4 servo to the transmission.
  4. Install the servo cover and O-ring seal.

  5. Object Number: 5427  Size: SH
  6. Tighten the bolt on the J 29714-A to compress the servo cover.

  7. Object Number: 207613  Size: SH
  8. Install the servo cover retaining ring.
  9. Loosen the bolt on the J 29714-A to release tension on the servo cover.

  10. Object Number: 5426  Size: SH
  11. Remove the J 29714-A from the oil pan rail.
  12. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  13. Install the two oil pan bolts below the 2-4 servo cover.
  14. Tighten
    Tighten the oil pan bolts to 11N·m (97 lb in).

  15. Raise the transmission.
  16. Install the catalytic converter heat shield. Refer to Converter Heat Shield Replacement in Engine Exhaust.
  17. Install the transmission support. Refer to Transmission Support Replacement in Frame and Underbody.
  18. Remove the transmission jack.
  19. Install the torque arm. Refer to Torque Arm Replacement in Rear Suspension.
  20. Install the propeller shaft. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
  21. Lower the vehicle.
