For 1990-2009 cars only
Use one of these two methods for clearing class 2 Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) in the module memory:
| • | The scan tool (Tech 2) method. |
| • | The ignition cycle default method. |
These methods will not clear DTCs:
| • | Unplugging the modules electrical connectors. |
| • | Disconnecting the battery cables. |
| • | Turning the ignition switch off (except on an ignition cycle default). |
Important:
• Check for proper module operation and the absence of DTCs after
completing the clearing procedure.
The BCM is not part of the class 2 serial data line and flashes DTC
codes. Refer to
Clearing DTCs
for clearing BCM DTCs.
• When diagnostics and repairs are completed, refer to the appropriate
sections system check for more information on related DTCs.

Ignition Cycle Default
The modules clear a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) automatically when the malfunction that set such DTC does not occur for 100 ignition cycles.
