Cruise Control Cable Replacement 5.7L

Removal Procedure

Without Traction Control


    Object Number: 296575  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cruise control cable from the throttle body linkage.
  2. Important: To remove the cable from the throttle body, push down the cable end to disengage the cable. Slide the cable end off the throttle lever.

  3. Unsnap and remove the cruise control cable from the throttle body bracket.
  4. Remove the cruise control cable from the accelerator/cruise control cable servo bracket.

  6. Remove the cruise control cable clip from the brake booster.
  7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  8. Object Number: 296584  Size: SH
  9. Disconnect the cruise control cable rosebud connector from the brake pipe clip.

  10. Object Number: 296578  Size: SH
  11. Remove the cruise control module shield bolts and nut.
  12. Remove the cruise control module shield.

  13. Object Number: 296583  Size: SH
  14. Remove the cruise control servo cover.

  15. Object Number: 296582  Size: SH
  16. Remove the retainer from the cruise control module
  17. Compress the conduit tangs


    Object Number: 296577  Size: SH
  18. Pull the cruise control cable (4) out from the module (2).
  19. Disconnect the cable bead (1) from the ribbon (3)
  20. Remove the cruise control cable from the vehicle.

With Traction Control


    Object Number: 296573  Size: SH
  1. Remove the cruise control servo cable adjuster cover.

  2. Object Number: 296567  Size: SH
  3. Remove the cruise control cable from the servo cable adjuster.

  4. Object Number: 296570  Size: SH
  5. Remove the cruise control cable (1) from the accelerator control cable clip (3).
  6. Remove the cruise control cable from the accelerator/cruise control cable servo bracket.

  7. Object Number: 296579  Size: SH
  8. Remove the cruise control cable clip from the brake booster.
  9. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  10. Object Number: 296584  Size: SH
  11. Disconnect the cruise control cable rosebud connector from the brake pipe clip.

  12. Object Number: 296578  Size: SH
  13. Remove the cruise control module shield bolts and nut.
  14. Remove the cruise control shield.

  15. Object Number: 296583  Size: SH
  16. Remove the cruise control servo cover.

  17. Object Number: 296582  Size: SH
  18. Remove the retainer from the cruise control module.
  19. Compress the conduit tangs


    Object Number: 296577  Size: SH
  20. Pull the cruise control cable (4) out from the module (2).
  21. Disconnect the cable bead (1) from the ribbon (3)
  22. Remove the cruise control cable from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

Without Traction Control


    Object Number: 296577  Size: SH
  1. Install the cruise control cable to the vehicle.
  2. Inspect the cable end to insure the O-ring is in place.
  3. Connect the cable bead (1) to the ribbon (3)
  4. Remove the shipping retainer.
  5. Important: Cruise control module ribbon must not be twisted.

  6. Pull the engine end of the cruise control cable until the cable is taut.
  7. Install the conduit fitting over the ribbon and snap cable end into the module.
  8. Ensure that both tangs are engaged.

  9. Install the retainer to the cruise control module.

  10. Object Number: 296583  Size: SH
  11. Install the cruise control servo cover.

  12. Object Number: 296578  Size: SH
  13. Install the cruise control module shield.
  14. Install the cruise control module shield bolts and nut.
  15. Tighten

        • Tighten the cruise control module shield bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
        • Tighten the cruise control module shield nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  16. Connect the cruise control cable rosebud connector to the brake pipe clip.
  17. Lower the vehicle.

  19. Install the cruise control cable clip to the brake booster.
  20. Install the cruise control cable to the accelerator/cruise control cable servo bracket.

  21. Object Number: 296575  Size: SH
  22. Install the cruise control cable to the throttle body linkage.
  23. Adjust the cruise control cable as needed. Refer to Cruise Control Cable Adjustment .

With Traction Control


    Object Number: 296577  Size: SH
  1. Install the cruise control cable to the vehicle.
  2. Inspect the cable end to insure the O-ring is in place.
  3. Connect the cable bead (1) to the ribbon (3)
  4. Remove the shipping retainer.
  5. Important: Cruise control module ribbon must not be twisted.

  6. Pull the engine end of the cruise control cable until the cable is taut.
  7. Install the conduit fitting over the ribbon and snap cable end into the module.

  11. Install the cruise control servo cover.

  13. Install the cruise control module shield.
  14. Install the cruise control module shield bolts and nut.
  15. Tighten

        • Tighten the cruise control module shield bolts to 6 N·m (53 lb in).
        • Tighten the cruise control module shield nut to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  16. Connect the cruise control cable rosebud connector to the brake pipe clip.
  17. Lower the vehicle.

  19. Install the cruise control cable clip to the brake booster.
  20. Install the cruise control cable to the accelerator/cruise control cable servo bracket.

  21. Object Number: 296570  Size: SH
  22. Install the cruise control cable (1) to the accelerator control cable clip (3).

  23. Object Number: 296567  Size: SH
  24. Install the cruise control cable to the servo cable adjuster.

  25. Object Number: 296573  Size: SH
  26. Install the cruise control servo cable adjuster cover.
  27. Adjust the cruise control cable as needed. Refer to Cruise Control Cable Adjustment .
