Power Steering Pump Replacement V8

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump (1).
  2. Remove the air intake resonator and mass airflow assembly.
  3. Remove the serpentine belt.
  4. Remove the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  5. Remove the outlet hose and the clamp from the reservoir (This allows fluid to drain from reservoir).
  6. Remove the inlet hose fitting from the pump.

  8. Remove power steering pump attaching bolts (4) and power steering pump front brace (3) from pump (1).
  9. Remove pump (1) from rear bracket (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 290570  Size: SH
  1. Install pump (1), pump front brace (3), and attaching bolts (4) to rear bracket (2).
  2. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts/screws to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  3. Install the inlet hose fitting from pump.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 28 N·m (21 lb ft).

  5. Install the outlet hose and clamp to reservoir.
  6. Install the power steering pump pulley. Refer to Power Steering Pump Pulley Replacement .
  7. Install the serpentine belt.
  8. Install the air intake resonator and mass airflow assembly.
  9. Remove drain pan.
  10. Refill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Pump Replacement V6

Removal Procedure

  1. Place a drain pan under the power steering pump (1).
  2. Remove the serpentine belt.
  3. Remove the front air intake duct.
  4. Remove the pulley from the power steering pump (1). Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .

  6. Disconnect the inlet hose (3) from the power steering pump (1).
  7. Disconnect the reservoir hose (2) from the power steering pump (1).

  8. Object Number: 290569  Size: SH
  9. Remove the power steering pump nuts.
  10. Remove the power steering pump.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 290569  Size: SH
  1. Position the power steering pump  onto the mounting studs.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Tighten the power steering pump nuts.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the power steering pump nuts to 30 N·m (23 lb ft).

  5. Connect the inlet hose to the power steering pump (2).
  6. Connect the reservoir hose (2) to the power steering pump (1).
  7. Install the pulley to the power steering pump (1). Refer to Remote Power Steering Fluid Reservoir Replacement .
  8. Install the front air intake duct.
  9. Install the serpentine belt.
  10. Refill and bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
