Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the valve rocker arm covers. Refer the following procedures:
  2. •  Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Left Side
    •  Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement - Right Side
  3. Remove the valve rocker arm bolts (1).
  4. Remove the valve rocker arms (2).

  6. Remove the valve rocker arm retainer (1).

  7. Object Number: 439864  Size: SH
  8. Remove the pushrods (1).

Installation Procedure

Important: When installing valve rocker arms and pushrods, coat the pushrods with lubricant GM P/N 12345501, Canada P/N 992704, or equivalent. Reinstall the rocker arms and pushrods in the same locations from which they were removed.

  1. Install the pushrods (1).

  2. Object Number: 439870  Size: SH
  3. Install the valve rocker arm retainer (1).

  4. Object Number: 554762  Size: SH
  5. Install the valve rocker arms (2).
  6. Apply threadlock GM P/N 12345493, Canada P/N 10953488, or equivalent to the rocker arm bolt threads before installing.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Install the valve rocker arm bolts (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the valve rocker arm bolts to 15 N·m (11 lb ft). Use the J 36660-A in order to torque the bolts an additional 90 degrees.

  10. Install the valve rocker arm covers. Refer to the following procedures:
