Exhaust System Insulator, Hanger, Bracket Replacement 3.8 and 5.7L Engines (Left Side)

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Support the exhaust muffler with an adjustable jack stand.
3. Slightly raise the side of the exhaust where the hanger replacement is required.
4. Remove the exhaust muffler hanger insulator.



5. Remove the exhaust muffler hanger bolts.

Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

1. Install the exhaust muffler hanger bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust muffler hanger bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




2. Install the exhaust muffler hanger insulator.
3. Allow the exhaust to be support by the insulator.
4. Remove the adjustable jack stand.
5. Lower the vehicle.

Exhaust System Insulator, Hanger, Bracket Replacement 5.7L Engine (Right Side)

1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
2. Support the exhaust muffler with an adjustable jack stand.
3. Slightly raise the side of the exhaust where the hanger replacement is required.
4. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bracket nut.
5. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bracket.



6. Remove the exhaust muffler hanger bolts and hanger.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust muffler hanger bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).




2. Remove the exhaust pipe hanger bracket.
3. Install the exhaust pipe hanger bracket nut.

Tighten
Tighten the exhaust pipe hanger bracket nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

4. Allow the exhaust to be support by the insulator.
5. Remove the adjustable jack stand.
6. Lower the vehicle.
