Catalytic Converter Hanger Bracket Replacement 3.8L Engine (Automatic)

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 21664  Size: SH
  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the catalytic converter.
  3. Remove the catalytic converter hanger bolts.
  4. Remove the catalytic converter hanger from the front hanger bracket.

  5. Object Number: 222998  Size: SH
  6. Remove the rear axle torque arm nuts.
  7. Remove the rear axle torque arm bracket bolts.
  8. Remove the catalytic converter front hanger bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 222998  Size: SH
  1. Install the catalytic converter front hanger bracket.
  2. Install the rear axle torque arm bracket bolts.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  4. Install the rear axle torque arm bracket nuts.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the rear axle torque arm bracket nuts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).

  6. Install the catalytic converter hanger to the front hanger bracket.
  7. Install the catalytic converter hanger bolts.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the catalytic converter hanger bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb  ft).

  9. Remove the support from the catalytic converter.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

  4. Remove the hanger from the bracket.

  6. Remove the rear axle torque arm bracket nuts.
  7. Remove the catalytic converter front hanger bracket.

  1. Install the catalytic converter front hanger bracket.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.   5. Install the hanger to the bracket.
  6. Install the catalytic converter hanger bolts.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the converter hanger bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  8. Remove the support from the catalytic converter.
  9. Lower the vehicle.

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Support the catalytic converter.
  3. Remove the catalytic converter hanger bolts.
  4. Remove the hanger from the bracket.

  5. Object Number: 222993  Size: SH
  6. Remove the rear axle torque arm bracket nuts.
  7. Remove the catalytic converter hanger bracket.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 222993  Size: SH
  1. Install the catalytic converter hanger to the bracket.
  2. Install the catalytic converter bracket to the rear axle torque arm bracket.
  3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application.     Tighten the catalytic converter hanger bolts to 41 N·m (30 lb ft).

  8. Remove the support from the catalytic converter.
  9. Lower the vehicle.
