For 1990-2009 cars only
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
- Support the rear axle with an adjustable lifting device.
- Remove the rear torque arm. Refer to Torque Arm Replacement in Rear Suspension.
- Remove the propeller shaft (2) from the vehicle. Refer to One-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement or Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement in Propeller Shaft.
- Remove the rear axle cover and gasket from housing. Refer to Rear Axle Housing Cover and Gasket Replacement .
- Remove the axle shafts (4). Refer to Rear Axle Shaft Replacement .
- Remove the differential case from housing (7). Refer to Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement .
- Remove the differential drive pinion gear and bearing races from housing. Refer to Drive Pinion Disassemble .
Important: It is not necessary to remove the rear axle assembly for overhaul of the rear axle components. Overhaul of the components can be done on the vehicle. If replacing the rear axle housing, remove the rear axle assembly from the vehicle and overhaul the assembly on the bench.
