Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 3.8L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 656031  Size: LH
  1. Place a drain pan under the power steering fluid reservoir (2).
  2. Remove the following components from the power steering fluid reservoir (2):
  3. • The clamp (13)
    • The power steering return hose  (12)
  4. Remove the capstick (1) from the power steering fluid reservoir (2) and allow the power steering fluid to drain into the pan.
  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  6. Place a drain pan under the power steering gear (5).
  7. Remove the power steering return hose (12) from the power steering gear (5).
  8. Remove the power steering return hose (12) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 656031  Size: LH
  1. Install the power steering return hose (12) to the vehicle.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the power steering return hose (12) to the power steering gear (5).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  5. Lower the vehicle.
  6. Install the following components to the power steering fluid reservoir (12):
  7. • The power steering return hose (12)
    • The clamp (13)
  8. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .

Power Steering Return Hose Replacement 5.7L

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 656257  Size: LH
  1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the power steering return hose (5) from the power steering gear (3).
  3. Lower the vehicle.
  4. Remove the following components from the power steering pump (9):
  5. • The clamp (4)
    • The power steering return hose (5)
  6. Remove the power steering return hose (5) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the power steering return hose (5) to the vehicle.
  2. Install the following components to the power steering pump (9):
  3. • The clamp (4).
    • The power steering return hose (5).
  4. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  6. Install the power steering return hose (5) to the power steering gear (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the fitting to 27 N·m (20 lb ft).

  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Bleed the power steering system. Refer to Power Steering System Bleeding .
