    • J 38720 Steering Wheel Puller Bolts

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the SIR module from the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR

  2. Object Number: 290184  Size: SH
  3. Remove the steering wheel retaining nut (3).
  4. Disconnect the horn ground lead (5).
  5. Notice: When attaching J 1859-A and J 38720 to the steering wheel, use care to prevent threading J 39720 (bolts) all the way through the steering wheel hub into the SIR coil and damaging the SIR coil.

  6. Use J 1859-A and J 38720 in order to remove the steering wheel (2).
  7. Remove the steering wheel horn switch. Refer to Horn Switch Replacement - On Vehicle .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 290184  Size: SH
  1. Route the SIR coil electrical connector to the steering wheel (2).
  2. Install the steering wheel horn switch. Refer to Horn Switch Replacement - On Vehicle
  3. Install the steering wheel (2).
  4. Connect the horn ground lead (5).
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the steering wheel retaining nut (3).
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the steering wheel retaining nut to 43 N·m (32 lb ft).

  8. Install the SIR module to the steering wheel. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
