Did you review the Exterior Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Turn the hazard lamp switch ON.

Do the hazard lamps turn on?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn the hazard lamp switch OFF.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
  3. While observing the turn signal lamps, place the turn signal switch in the LH ON position .
  4. While observing the turn signal lamps, place the turn signal switch in the RH ON position .

Do the turn signals operate properly?

Go to Step 4

  1. Place the turn signal switch in the OFF position .
  2. Turn the hazard lamp switch ON.

Are all of the hazard lamps inoperative?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 9

  1. Remove the hazard lamp flasher.
  2. Probe the battery positive voltage circuit of the hazard flasher with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Did the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 6

  1. Turn the hazard lamp switch OFF.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the battery positive voltage circuit of the hazard flasher connector and the signal circuit of the hazard lamp flasher connector.
  3. Turn the hazard lamp switch ON.

Do the hazard lamps illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test the hazard flasher signal circuit for an open, high resistance or a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Did find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the hazard lamp flasher. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the turn/hazard switch assembly. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the battery positive voltage circuit of the hazard flasher. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the hazard lamp flasher. Refer to Hazard Lamp Flasher Replacement .

Replace the turn/hazard switch assembly. Refer to Multifunction Turn Signal Lever Replacement - On Vehicle in Steering.
