Did you review the Exterior Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  3. Turn the headlamp leveling switch to each of the four positions.

Does the headlamp leveling feature operate properly?

Is only one of the headlamp leveling actuators inoperative?

Is the headlamp leveling switch backlighting inoperative?

  1. Move the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp leveling actuator motor connector.
  3. Probe the headlamp supply voltage circuit of either headlamp leveling actuator motor connector with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Turn the headlamp switch to the OFF position.
  2. Disconnect the headlamp leveling switch connector.
  3. Connect a DMM between the bit 3 signal 870 circuit of the headlamp leveling switch connector and ground.

Does the resistance measure near the specified value?

732 ohms --Coupe

649 ohms --Convertible

  1. Disconnect the headlamp leveling switch connector.
  2. Place the headlamp switch in the HEAD position.
  3. Probe the headlamp supply voltage circuit of the headlamp leveling switch connector with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Probe the backlighting ground circuit of the headlamp leveling switch connector with a test lamp that is connected to battery voltage.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Disconnect the inoperative headlamp leveling actuator motor connector.
  2. Turn the headlamp switch to the HEAD position.
  3. Probe the headlamp supply voltage circuit of the inoperative headlamp leveling actuator motor with a test lamp that is connected to ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Probe the ground circuit of the inoperative headlamp leveling actuator motor with a test lamp that is connected to battery voltage.

Test the for an open or high resistance in the bit 2 signal 869 circuit of the inoperative headlamp leveling actuator motor . Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
