Did you review the Exterior Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems

  1. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.
  2. Ensure that the brake pedal is not engaged.

Do the stop lamps remain off?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Disconnect the stop lamp/TCC switch.

Do the stop lamps turn off?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 4

Repair a short to battery voltage in the supply voltage circuit of the stoplamp. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 6

Replace the stop lamp/TCC switch. Refer to Stop Lamp Switch Replacement and to Stop Lamp Switch Adjustment in Hydraulic Brakes.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
