Did you review the Exterior Lighting System Description and Operation and perform the necessary inspections?

Go to Step 2

Go to Symptoms - Lighting Systems

  1. Turn the ignition to the OFF position.
  2. Place the headlamp switch in the OFF position.
  3. Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the LOW BEAM position and then in the HIGH BEAM position.

Do the headlamps remain off?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

Place the headlamp dimmer switch in the LOW BEAM position and then in the HIGH BEAM position.

Are the headlamps on in both cases?

Go to Step 4

Disconnect the headlamp switch connector.

Do the headlamps remain illuminated?

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 7

Repair a short to battery voltage in the headlamps supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair a short to battery voltage in the supply voltage circuit of the low beam headlamps or the supply voltage circuit of the high beam headlamps. Refer to Wiring Repairs or to Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.
