Did you perform the Body Rear End Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Step 2

  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position if automatic or apply the parking brake if standard,
  2. Release the rear compartment lid.

Does the hatch ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch.
  2. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch signal circuit and a good ground.

Does the hatch ajar indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 5

Test for an open or high resistance in the signal circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 9

Test for an open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid ajar indicator switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Replace the instrument panel cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gages, and Console.
