Did you perform the IPC Diagnostic System Check?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Instrument Cluster

1. Install a scan tool.
2. Raise vehicle's drive wheels. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
3. Start the engine.
4. Place the transmission into drive for automatic transmission or third gear for manual transmission.
5. With the scan tool, observe the VSS parameter in the PCM Engine Data 1 data list.

Does the VSS parameter match the speedometer display?

Does the odometer operate properly?

--

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 6

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Disconnect the PCM connector C2 (V8) or PCM connector C1 (V6).
3. Start the engine.
4. Place the transmission into drive for automatic transmission and third gear for manual transmission.
5. Measure the voltage from the vehicle speed signal circuit to a good ground. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the voltage measure greater than the specified value?

9.6 V

Test the VSS signal circuit for an open or a high resistance between the IPC and the PCM. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the PCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the setup procedure for the replacement IPC.

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Important: Perform the reprogramming procedure for the replacement PCM.

Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8L or Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls-5.7L.

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
