Did you perform the IPC Diagnostic System Check?

Start the engine.

Does the low oil level indicator illuminate?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Install scan tool.
  2. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  3. With a scan tool select PCM engine 2 data list.

Does the Engine Oil Level Switch parameter indicate OK?

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the PCM connector C2 (V6 VIN K) or C1 (V8 VIN G).
  3. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  4. Using a test lamp probe the signal circuit of the engine oil level switch to B+. Refer to Circuit Testing in Wiring Systems.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 8

Test the engine oil level switch signal circuit for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

  1. Turn off the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the engine oil level switch connector.
  3. Test the engine oil level switch ground circuit for an open or a high resistance. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 13

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the IPC. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the PCM. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the engine oil level switch. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the replacement IPC.

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .

Important: Perform the programming procedure for the replacement PCM.

Replace the PCM. Refer to Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls-3.8L or Powertrain Control Module Replacement in Engine Controls-5.7L.
