  1. Place the transmission in the PARK position if automatic or apply the parking brake if standard.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the rear compartment lid release?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay signal circuit and a good ground.
  3. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release relay signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release relay ground circuit.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release lid relay battery voltage circuit and a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release lid relay battery positive voltage circuit and the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

  1. Connect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  3. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and a good ground.
  4. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

  1. Connect a test lamp between the rear compartment lid release actuator signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release actuator ground.
  2. Operate the rear compartment lid release switch.

  1. Connect the rear compartment lid release relay.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release switch.
  3. Connect a fused jumper between the rear compartment lid release switch signal circuit and the rear compartment lid release switch ground circuit.

Repair the open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair the open or high resistance in the battery voltage circuit of the rear compartment lid release relay. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
