J 42450-A Hub Cleaning Kit

Removal Procedure

  1. Ensure that the park brake is released.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  4. Notice: Support the brake caliper with heavy mechanic wire, or equivalent, whenever it is separated from its mount and the hydraulic flexible brake hose is still connected. Failure to support the caliper in this manner will cause the flexible brake hose to bear the weight of the caliper, which may cause damage to the brake hose and in turn may cause a brake fluid leak.

  5. Remove the brake caliper (2) and the caliper mounting bracket as an assembly from the rear axle (3) and support the assembly with heavy mechanic's wire, or equivalent; ensure that there is no tension on the hydraulic brake flexible hose. Do NOT disconnect the hydraulic brake flexible hose from the caliper. Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  6. Remove the brake rotor (4). Do not force the rotor off. If the rotor is difficult to remove, ease it off by gently rotating it as you pull outward.

Installation Procedure

  1. Use the J 42450-A in order to clean any rust or corrosion from the wheel hub surface.

  2. Object Number: 221499  Size: SH
  3. Install the brake rotor (1) to the axle shaft flange.

  4. Object Number: 181861  Size: SH
  5. Install the brake caliper (2) and the brake caliper bracket as an assembly to the rear axle (3). Refer to Rear Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement .
  6. Inspect the operation of the park brake. Adjust the park brake if necessary. Refer to Park Brake Adjustment in Park Brake.
  7. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tire and Wheels.
  8. Lower the vehicle.
  9. Burnish the pads and rotors. Refer to Brake Pad and Rotor Burnishing .
