Diagnostic Aids

When the clutch pedal sticks or binds during clutch pedal travel there might be a faulty bushing or a worn or damaged release bearing.

Test Description

The numbers below refer to the step numbers on the diagnostic table.

  1. This step explains there parts and the operation of the clutch system.

  2. This step checks for worn bushings.

  3. This step checks for a faulty release bearing.

Did you review the clutch symptom operations and perform the necessary inspections?

Check the clutch pedal bushings for wear.

Are the clutch pedal bushings worn?

Go to Step 3

System OK

Repair the clutch pedal assembly. Refer to Clutch Pedal Replacement

Does the clutch work properly?

System OK

Go to Step 4

  1. Remove the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - M49 or Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - MM6.
  2. Check the clutch release bearing cylinder.

Is the release bearing faulty?

Go to Step 5

Replace the clutch release bearing. Refer to Clutch Actuator Cylinder Replacement .

Did you find and repair the condition?

Go to Step 6

  1. Install the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - M49 or Transmission Replacement in Manual Transmission - MM6.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
