The IPC illuminates the OIL CHANGE indicator when the PCM determines the engine oil needs to be changed. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. After the oil is changed, reset the engine oil monitor. Refer to GM Oil Life System Resetting in Maintenance and Lubrication.
The CHECK GAGES indicator illuminates under the following conditions:
• | The engine coolant temperature exceeds 107°C (225°F). |
• | The engine oil pressure is low. |
• | A generator malfunction exists. |
• | The fuel level falls below 1/16 of a tank. |
The PCM sends a class 2 message in order to turn on the CHECK GAGES indicator depending on the signals it receives from the following components:
• | The engine coolant temperature sensor |
• | The fuel level sensor |
• | The generator |
The IPC illuminates the low oil level indicator when the PCM detects a low oil level condition. The PCM monitors the engine oil level signal circuit. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination.
The IPC illuminates the REDUCED ENG PWR indicator when the following occurs:
• | The PCM detects a malfunction in the engine. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC performs the displays test at the start of each ignition cycle. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with the PCM. |
The IPC illuminates the SERVICE VEHICLE indicator when the following occurs:
• | DTC B0670 sets in the SDM module. |
• | The PCM detects certain non-emissions related malfunctions. The IPC receives a class 2 message from the PCM requesting illumination. |
• | The IPC detects a loss of class 2 communications with any other module. |
