Removal Procedure
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System .

    2. Object Number: 82187 Size: SH
  2. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  3. Remove the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  4. Remove the wire harness straps from the steering wheel column wire harness.
  5. Remove the retaining ring.
  6. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module coil from the steering shaft.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 396373 Size: SH

    Important: Center the SIR coil assembly before installation.

  1. Center the SIR coil assembly (1). Refer to Inflatable Restraint Coil Centering - Off Vehicle in Steering Wheel and Column .
  2. Feed the SIR coil assembly connectors through the steering column.

    3. Object Number: 322951 Size: SH
  3. Install the existing SIR coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2) following these steps:
    4. 3.1. Proceed to the next step if a new coil assembly (4) is needed.
    3.2. Position the coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
    3.3. Align the opening in the coil assembly (4) with the horn tower (1) and the locating bump between the 2 tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly.
    3.4. Seat the coil assembly (4) onto the steering shaft assembly (2).
  4. Install a new coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2) following these steps:
    5. 4.1. Assemble the pre-centered coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
    4.2. Position the coil assembly (4) to the steering shaft assembly (2).
    4.3. Align the opening in the SIR coil assembly (4) with the horn tower (1) and the locating bump between the 2 tabs on the lock housing cover and sleeve assembly.
    4.4. Remove the centering tab.
    4.5. Dispose of the centering tab.
  5. Install the retaining ring (3) to the steering shaft assembly (2).

    6. Object Number: 343717 Size: SH

    Notice: Note the correct routing of the electrical wiring. Failure to reinstall the wiring properly could result in damage to the wiring.

  6. Install the wiring protector and the wire harness straps to the steering column.
  7. Install the steering wheel. Refer to Steering Wheel Replacement in Steering Wheel and Column.
  8. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement .
  9. Enable the SIR system. Refer to Enabling the SIR System .
