The following pages will address the service program for these telephones. This will include the essential tools, AC-Delco Service Centers, warranty, installation, activation, and programming.
This program will begin in a test market. It will then become nationwide, at which time, the telephone will be available to every GM Dealership. We are aware that every dealership will not be affected by this program. The cell phone coverage areas do not cover the entire country.
Sales information will be sent to the dealerships that choose to participate in this program.
Tools that are needed to provide service to the dealer installed cellular telephone are essential to the dealership that sells the telephone. These tools are not eligible for repurchase under the.. dealer sales and service agreement.
Kent Moore J39303 is the Cellular Phone Service Tool Kit which includes:
Kent Moore J39146 - Magnetic Mount Cellular Telephone Antenna Kent Moore J39147 - Identity (ID) Transfer Cable Kent Moore J39148 - Cellular Telephone Harness Bypass Cable Kent Moore J39303-1 - Box Assembly Kent Moore J39303-2 - Installation/Diagnostic Manual
These tools will be sent to your dealership after your dealership orders their first cellular telephone.
Again, these tools are essential to dealerships that sell the telephone.
The AC-Delco service centers listed on the last page of this bulletin are the service centers that have been authorized to provide exchange service for the telephone. This authorization deals with the servicing of the transceiver box and the handset only.
These service centers mentioned above, will be stocked with a number of exchange units. These exchange units will be available to your dealership on a pre-exchange basis. This means your dealership can request and receive a replacement unit from the AC-Delco Exchange Center before you return the defective unit. This pre-exchange is important when a transceiver box is to be replaced because you need both the defective transceiver box and the exchange transceiver box in order to perform an identity transfer.
The Service Diagnostic Tag can be found in the Phone Users Guide or in any of the Service Packages.
The cellular service is provided by a local carrier in your area. You may call 1-800-422-2394 for the name of the local cellular service provider. This cellular provider will also be the main contact for any cellular coverage related questions.
--------- The warranty on the Delco Electronic Dealer Installed Telephone will be 36 month/unlimited mileage. This warranty will follow the telephone, not the vehicle. Therefore this telephone can be transferred from one vehicle to the other without affecting the warranty. For more details, refer to the warranty statement included in the Dealer Cellular Telephone Package.
------------- Provided in the cellular telephone dealer package will be an installation guide. This guide is designed to instruct the dealership technician in the recommended installation of the telephone. Delco.. Electronics recommends the dealer technician follows these instructions.
Following the installation guide will help a technician servicing the telephone in the future. The technician will be able to have confidence in the way the telephone was installed. He will be able to know the exact placement of the components, as well as the wire and antenna wire routing.
Sometime during installation, the dealer technician or the sales person will be involved in the activation and programming of the telephone.
The activation of the telephone is the interface that goes on between the customer, dealership, and the activation center. This is similar to activating any utility service. The cellular activation center has an application form that must be filled out. This form is similar to a loan application. The application information will be supplied by the customer and the dealership.
The application form will then be relayed over the phone or faxed to the General Motors Cellular Activation Center (GMCAC). The GMCAC will process the information and call the dealership back with the information that must be programmed into the telephone.
Programming the telephone is accomplished by using the keypad of the handset. The instructions for doing this procedure are in the user's guide.
Programming of the telephone may also have to be done on some rare occasions while servicing the telephone. This procedure may also need to be followed if the technician needs to check that the information programmed into the telephone is correct.
Parts are currently available from GMSPO.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
