Schematic Reference: Engine Controls Schematics
The manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor measures the change in the intake manifold pressure (vacuum). The powertrain control module (PCM) provides a 5 volt reference voltage to the MAP sensor. The MAP sensor modifies the reference voltage in response to changes in engine load and engine speed. The PCM monitors the MAP sensor voltage. A low voltage reading at the PCM indicates low manifold pressure. A high voltage reading at the PCM indicates high manifold pressure.
The ignition is ON.
• | A low voltage input at the PCM indicates that manifold absolute pressure is 5 kPa or less. |
• | The above condition is met for at least 0.5 seconds. |
• | The PCM illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL). |
• | The PCM records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. This information is stored in the Freeze Frame buffer. |
• | The PCM enters the Fail-Safe Function and relies on the TP sensor and engine speed inputs while stopping idle speed feedback control and EVAP purge control. |
The ignition is ON.
• | The MIL turns OFF after three consecutively passing trips without a fault present. |
• | A History DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles without a fault. |
• | Use the scan tool Clear DTC Information function or disconnect the PCM battery feed in order to clear the DTC. |
Check for any of the following conditions:
• | Check for a blocked or leaking vacuum passage to the MAP sensor. |
• | If a DTC P0107 and P0122 are set together the cause could be an open or shorted to ground reference circuit. |
• | A faulty electrical connection to the PCM. |
An intermittent malfunction may be caused by a fault in the MAP sensor electrical circuit. Inspect the wiring harness and components for any of the following conditions:
• | Backed out terminals. |
• | Improper mating of terminals. |
• | Broken electrical connector locks. |
• | Improperly formed or damaged terminals. |
• | Faulty terminal to wire connections. |
• | Physical damage to the wiring harness. |
• | A broken wire inside the insulation. |
• | Corrosion of electrical connections, splices, or terminals. |
If a DTC P0107 cannot be duplicated, the information included in the Freeze Frame data can be useful in determining vehicle operating conditions when the DTC was first set.
Use the following MAP Conversion table in order to view the relationship between manifold pressure (vacuum), MAP sensor kPa and MAP sensor circuit voltage as displayed on the scan tool.

The Powertrain OBD system check prompts the technician to complete some basic checks and store the Freeze Frame data on the scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the fault occurred. The information is then stored in the scan tool for later reference.
This step determines that the fault is present.
This step checks for the correct reference circuit voltage. The scan tool MAP sensor voltage display will indicate 6.99 volts with the MAP sensor disconnected (open in the sensor input circuit). This is caused by the scan tool software and should be considered normal. Ignore the scan tool voltage and use the DMM for all voltage checks when diagnosing a DTC P0107.
This step checks for the correct input circuit voltage. The scan tool MAP sensor voltage display will indicate 6.99 volts with the MAP sensor disconnected (open in the sensor input circuit). This is caused by the scan tool software and should be considered normal. Ignore the scan tool voltage and use the DMM for all voltage checks when diagnosing a DTC P0107.
