Was the Starting System Check performed?

  1. Test for battery voltage at the starter solenoid terminal S.
  2. Engage the parking brake and place the manual selector lever in P or N (automatic transaxle).
  3. Place the gear selector lever in neutral and depress the clutch (manual transaxle).
  4. Turn the ignition switch to START.

Is battery voltage present?

Replace the starter solenoid. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement and Starter Motor Overhaul .

  1. Test for battery voltage at terminal 5 of the park/neutral position (PNP) switch with the ignition switch in the START position (automatic transaxle).
  2. Test for battery voltage at terminal 2 of the clutch pedal position (CPP) switch with the clutch pedal depressed and the ignition switch in the START position (manual transaxle).

Is battery voltage present?

Repair the open in the BLK/YEL wire between the PNP switch (or the CPP switch) and the starter solenoid. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

  1. Test for battery voltage at terminal 6 of the PNP switch with the ignition switch in the START position (automatic transaxle).
  2. Test for battery voltage at terminal 1 of the CPP switch with the ignition switch in the START position and the clutch pedal depressed (manual transaxle).

Is battery voltage present?

    • Replace the PNP switch (automatic transaxle). Refer to Transaxle Range Switch in Automatic Transaxle.
    • Replace the CPP switch (manual transaxle). Refer to Clutch Pedal Position Switch Replacement in Clutch.

  1. Test for battery voltage at connector 6 terminal 15 of the junction block with the ignition switch in the START position (automatic transaxle).
  2. Test for battery voltage at connector 6 terminal 15 of the junction block with the ignition switch in the START position and the clutch pedal depressed (manual transaxle).

Repair the open in the BLK/RED wire between the PNP switch (or the CPP switch) and the junction block. Refer to Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Test for battery voltage at connector 1 terminal 1 of the junction block with the ignition switch in the START position.
