For 1990-2009 cars only

Inspect for the following conditions:

    • An overfilled reservoir
    • Air bubbles in the fluid
    • Loose pipe/hose connections

Perform the following actions when the steering gear and pump requires service:

    • Clean the leakage area upon disassembly.
    • Replace the locking seal.
    • Inspect the component sealing surfaces for damage.
    • Reset the fittings to the proper tightening specifications where required. Refer to Fastener Tightening Specifications .

The following complaints about the power steering system may be reported:

    • Fluid leakage on the garage floor
    • Visible fluid leaks on the steering gear or pump
    • Growling noise, especially when parking or when the engine is cold
    • The loss of power steering when parking
    • Heavy steering effort

When you troubleshoot these kinds of complaints, inspect for an external leak in the power steering system.
