Caution: Unless directed otherwise, the ignition and start switch must be in the OFF or LOCK position, and all electrical loads must be OFF before servicing any electrical component. Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent an electrical spark should a tool or equipment come in contact with an exposed electrical terminal. Failure to follow these precautions may result in personal injury and/or damage to the vehicle or its components.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Replacement
  2. Disconnect the antenna lead-in connector at the radio receiver.
  3. Important: In order to avoid a misdiagnosis, set the meter to zero before taking measurements.

  4. Use a J 39200 digital multimeter in order to measure the resistance between the coax (outer conductor) connector and the negative battery cable.

Is the resistance greater than the specified value?

0.15 ohms

  1. Grasp the antenna mast.
  2. While observing the J 39200 digital multimeter, wiggle the antenna.

Does the meter indicate intermittent continuity?

  1. Inspect the base of the antenna for a good connection to body ground.
  2. Inspect the coaxial interconnects for a poor connection or corrosion.
  3. Inspect the ground connection from the battery negative cable to the body.
  4. Repair the ground circuit as necessary.

Important: In order to avoid a misdiagnosis, set the meter to zero before taking measurements.

Use a J 39200 digital multimeter in order to measure the resistance between the radial coax lead in the connector (center conductor) and the antenna mast.

Is the resistance less than the specified value?

1.0 ohms
