Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the liftgate (1).
- Remove the 2 bolts (4) which secure the support to the liftgate (1).
- Loosen the following components in order to gain access to the support ball stud:
- Unscrew the liftgate support ball stud (2).
- Remove the support (3) from the vehicle.
Caution: When a lift gate hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

Important: The liftgate support cylinders are gas-filled, DO NOT attempt to disassemble any part of the support. Replace the support as a unit.
Installation Procedure
- Install the support to the liftgate (1). Secure the support with 2 bolts (4).
- Screw the ball stud into place on the vehicle.
- If you are installing a new support (3) and ball stud, use a rubber mallet in order to knock the support (3) onto the ball stud.
- Reposition the following components:
- Lower the liftgate (1).
Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Important: When installing a new support, be careful not to scratch or contaminate the support rod extension with dirt or oil. Scratches, dirt or oil could cause damage to the support by tearing or scoring the support seal.
Tighten
Tighten the support ball stud to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
