The lip seals, which seal the rotating shafts, require special treatment. The power steering pump uses this type of seal. If leakage occurs in this area, replace the seal after you inspect the seal and clean the sealing surfaces. Replace the rotating shaft if you find pitting. If corrosion in the lip seal contact zone is slight, clean the surface of the shaft with crocus cloth. Replace the shaft only if you cannot stop the leakage by first smoothing with the cloth.

Whenever you remove a part which forms a sealing surface for an O-ring, you should also replace the O-ring seal with a new seal. Lubricate all of the new seals with power steering fluid prior to assembly.
