Circuit/System Description
This diagnostic applies to internal microprocessor integrity conditions within the engine control module (ECM) and the throttle actuator control (TAC) system. This diagnostic also addresses if the ECM is not programmed.
Conditions for Running the DTC
P0601, P0604, and P16F3
• | The ignition is ON, or the engine is operating. |
• | The DTCs run continuous once the above condition is met. |
P0602, P0603, and P062F
• | The ignition is ON, or the engine is operating. |
• | The DTCs run once an ignition cycle. |
P0606
• | The ignition is ON, or the engine is operating. |
• | The ignition voltage is greater than 6 volts. |
• | The DTC runs continuous once the above conditions are met. |
P2610
• | DTCs P0112, P0113, or P0114 are not set. |
• | The ECM is not powered down. |
• | The intake air temperature (IAT) is between -40 to +80°C (-40 to +176°F). |
• | The DTC runs continuous once the above conditions are met. |
Conditions for Setting the DTC
The ECM detects an internal failure or incomplete programming for more than 10 seconds.
Action Taken When the DTC Sets
• | DTCs P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606 P062F, and P16F3 are type A DTCs. |
• | DTC P2610 is a type B DTC. |
• | The ECM will disable engine operation or command the TAC system to operate in a Reduced Engine Power mode. |
Conditions for Clearing the DTC
• | DTCs P0601, P0602, P0603, P0604, P0606 P062F, and P16F3 are type A DTCs. |
• | DTC P2610 is a type B DTC. |
Diagnostic Aids
• | A low battery condition may cause DTC P0606 and P2610 to set. |
• | An intermittent condition at the ignition switch may cause DTC P2610 to set. |

Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition ON, clear the DTC information with a scan tool. Observe the scan tool DTC information. Verify that DTCs P0602, or P2610 do not fail this ignition cycle.
⇒ | If DTC P0602 failed this ignition, reprogram the ECM. Refer to
Control Module References. If DTC P0602 resets, replace the ECM. |
⇒ | If DTC P2610 failed this ignition, test the ECM ignition and battery positive voltage circuits, for an open/high resistance or a short to ground. Also, test the ECM ground circuits for an open/high resistance. If the circuits test normal, replace
the ECM. |
- Ignition OFF for 60 seconds. Ignition ON, observe the DTC information with a scan tool. Verify DTCs P0601, P0603, P0604, P0606, P062F, or P16F3 do not set this ignition cycle.
⇒ | If any of the DTCs set this ignition cycle, replace the ECM. |
