Removal Procedure
Important: The factory equipped welded extension pipe can be cut and reused when installing a service muffler, if the extension pipe is in acceptable condition.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Locate and cut the extension pipe forward of the weld at the front of the muffler using an exhaust pipe cutter.
- Remove the muffler insulators from the muffler and remove the muffler.
- Clean and deburr the extension pipe end as necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Using a non petroleum product, lubricate the muffler insulators for ease of installation of the muffler.
- Slide the muffler inlet pipe over the extension pipe, then install the muffler to the muffler insulators.
- Install a service muffler clamp to the muffler inlet pipe. Position the clamp approximately 19 mm (¾ in), from the edge of the muffler inlet, with the clamp nuts oriented away from the evaporative emission
(EVAP) canister.
- Align the muffler and tailpipe to the vehicle underbody and rear bumper fascia.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- While maintaining muffler positioning, tighten the service clamp nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the service clamp nuts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Inspect for exhaust leaks.

Removal Procedure
Important: The factory equipped welded exhaust muffler
pipe can be cut and reused when installing a service muffler, if the muffler pipe
is in acceptable condition.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to
Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
.
- Support the exhaust muffler.
- Cut the exhaust muffler pipe just forward of the weld at the front of
the exhaust muffler using a suitable exhaust pipe cutter.
- Remove the muffler insulator from the underbody hanger and remove the
exhaust muffler.
- Deburr the muffler pipe end as necessary.
Installation Procedure
- Slide the muffler inlet pipe over the muffler pipe, then install the muffler
insulator to the underbody hanger.
- Install a service muffler clamp to the muffler
inlet pipe. Position the clamp approximately 19 mm (¾ in), from
the edge of the muffler inlet, with the clamp nuts oriented away from the evaporative
emission (EVAP) canister.
- Align the muffler and tailpipe to the vehicle underbody and rear bumper
fascia.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
- While maintaining muffler positioning, tighten the exhaust clamp nuts.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 45 N·m (33 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
