Intermittent Park Lamp Fuse Goes Open (G6 Only) - keywords brake DTC hazard IPC light MIL SVS switch

Subject:ntermittent Park Lamp Fuse Goes Open (G6 Only)

Models:2005-2007 Pontiac G6

This PI was superseded to include 2007 Model year, to recommend removing the rear fascia to repair wiring and to add additional STG information. Please discard PIC3976.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Repeat 10 Amp Park Lamps fuse in rear BEC blown. Other symptoms may be no IPC illumination, no tail lights, no front park lamps, and/or no switch illumination. BCM may have a DTC of B2585 symptom code 01 or 06. This condition may be caused by the rear license plate screws contacting the Dark-Green circuit 9 wire that supplies voltage to the rear license plate lamp assembly.

Note: The B2585 s/c 01 or 06 will turn the SVS light on if current.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Remove the screws from the rear license plate and look into the mounting screw holes to see if the harness is damaged. If damage to the wire is apparent, remove the fascia per SI doc ID# 1462576 for Sedans and SI doc ID# 1563290 for Coupes and Convertibles. Repair damaged wire. Tape the harness away (inside of the fascia) from the mounting screws. If no damage to the wire is observed in the area of the mounting screws, your concern may be similar to other reports of a short to ground (on circuit #8) at the driver/passenger heated seat switch illumination in the seats. (If equipped with heated seats)

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
