Removal Procedure
- Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
- Remove the frame brace, if equipped. Refer to Frame Replacement .
- If equipped with a 2.4L engine, remove the exhaust manifold pipe to muffler nuts.
- If equipped with a 3.5L, or a 3.9L engine with a automatic transaxle, remove the right (rear) catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
- If equipped with a 3.9L with a manual transaxle, remove the exhaust pipe to muffler nuts.
- With the aid of an assistant , remove the muffler insulators from the hangers.
- Remove the muffler assembly.
Installation Procedure
- With the aid of an assistant , position the muffler assembly.
- Install the muffler insulators to the hangers.
- If equipped with a 3.9L with a manual transaxle, install the exhaust pipe to muffler nuts.
- If equipped with a 3.5L, or a 3.9L engine with a automatic transaxle, install the right (rear) catalytic converter to muffler nuts.
- If equipped with a 2.4L engine, install the exhaust manifold pipe to muffler nuts.
- Install the frame brace, if equipped. Refer to Frame Replacement .
- Lower the vehicle.
Important: Replace the muffler hangers any time the exhaust system is removed from the vehicle. Do not use any mineral oil based lubricants or sharp tools when installing new exhaust system hangers.
Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.
Tighten
Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
