Subject:Electrical power management (EPM) Codes B1517.5A and B1516.08 Setting

Models:2008 Pontiac G6 - LE5 Engine (only)

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

If you recently replaced a BCM on a 2008 G6 (LE5 engine only) Built before VIN # 1G2ZG57B684178592, you may have noticed two Electrical power management (EPM) codes. The codes that might be stored are B1517.5A and B1516.08.

Or, if you are servicing a 2008 G6 (LE5 engine only) for any other reason built prior to VIN # 1G2ZG57B684178592, you may see these DTCs reported by the Tech 2. After further inspection you may also notice that there is NOT a current sensor located in the battery cable.

These codes are not accurate for this vehicle configuration. The BCM is (by default) configured to expect Electrical Power Management, but the vehicles built before the above break point are not equipped with such a feature.

Recommendation/Instructions:

A fix to turn off the erroneous DTCs should be available TIS to WEB April 28, 2008, and shipped to dealers on May 7, 2008. At that time, if you see these DTCs on an LE5-equipped vehicle built prior to VIN # 1G2ZG57B684178592, the fix can be performed through the Tech 2 to turn off the false DTCs.

Important: These DTCs do not cause any telltales or warning messages to displayed, and there is no impact to vehicle operation.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
