Subject:No/low Audio From one Channel on XM Band

Models:2008 Chevrolet Malibu
2008 Pontiac G6
2008 Saturn Aura

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

No/low audio from one channel on the XM band, or one channel with a speaker popping/hissing on other bands. This condition may be caused by a shorted to ground audio circuit at connector X207.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Check for pinched/grounded wires at Connector X207:

  1. Locate connector X207 (right side dash end cap) and inspected the drain wire at the connector. This drain wire has reportedly been trapped by the Connector Position Assurance (CPA) retainer causing it to make contact with left or right speaker channels. If you find the drain wire is touching other speaker circuits it may be necessary to remove the CPA and reroute as needed.
  2. If the drain wire is NOT making contact with other speaker circuits at X207, then look in the surrounding area of X207 for any speaker circuits that could be shorted to ground.

Note: There have been reports of the wiring shorted/pinched by the dash beam.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
