Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1556785  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
  2. Remove the engine mount snubber and drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  3. Remove the air cleaner inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  4. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to Engine Support Fixture.
  5. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  6. Place a suitable drain pan under the oil pan drain plug.
  7. Remove the oil pan drain plug and drain the engine oil from the crankcase.
  8. Reinstall the oil pan drain plug until snug.
  9. Remove the right front splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side.
  10. Remove the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  11. Remove the engine oil cooler. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Replacement.
  12. Remove the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement.

  14. Remove the air conditioning (A/C) compressor bolts and position the compressor aside.

  15. Object Number: 1583198  Size: SH
  16. Disconnect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  17. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side.

  18. Object Number: 1736974  Size: SH
  19. Remove the transaxle brace to oil pan bolts.
  20. Remove the transaxle brace to transaxle bolt and remove the brace.

  21. Object Number: 1736975  Size: SH
  22. Remove the transaxle brace to oil pan lower bolt (6), if equipped with regular production option (RPO) M15.

  23. Object Number: 1583199  Size: SH
  24. Remove the oil pan bolts (1, 2).
  25. Remove the oil pan.
  26. Remove and discard the oil pan gasket.
  27. Clean the oil pan sealing surfaces.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1583199  Size: SH
  1. Apply sealer to both sides of the crankshaft rear main bearing cap. Press the sealer into the gap using a putty knife. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.
  2. Apply sealer to both sides of the front cover/block mating area. Refer to Adhesives, Fluids, Lubricants, and Sealers.
  3. Install a NEW oil pan gasket.
  4. Position the oil pan to the engine.
  5. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  6. Install the oil pan bolts (1, 2).
  7. • Tighten the bolts (1) to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
    • Tighten the bolts (2) to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  8. Install the transaxle brace to oil pan lower bolt (6), if equipped with (RPO) M15 and tighten to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  9. Object Number: 1736974  Size: SH
  10. Position the transaxle brace and install the transaxle brace to transaxle bolt until snug.
  11. Install the transaxle brace to oil pan bolts and tighten to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  12. Object Number: 1583198  Size: SH
  13. Connect the oil level sensor electrical connector.
  14. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side.

  15. Object Number: 1777431  Size: SH
  16. Position the A/C compressor and install the bolts. Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft)
  17. Install the right front splash shield. Refer to Engine Splash Shield Replacement - Right Side.
  18. Install the starter. Refer to Starter Motor Replacement.
  19. Install the oil filter adapter. Refer to Oil Filter Adapter and Bypass Valve Assembly Replacement.
  20. Install the oil cooler. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Replacement.
  21. Ensure that the oil pan drain plug is tighten.
  22. Tighten the drain plug to 26 N·m (19 lb ft).

  23. Lower the vehicle.
  24. Remove the engine support fixture.
  25. Install the air cleaner inlet duct. Refer to Air Cleaner Inlet Duct Replacement.
  26. Install the engine mount snubber and drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement.
  27. Fill the crankcase.
  28. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection.
