Rear Compartment Lid Strut Stud Replacement Convertible

Description

If the studs on the tail are either broken or stripped, this procedure will remedy the sproblem.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 1677234  Size: SH
  1. Use a cut-off wheel to cut off the stud at the base of the stud.

  2. Object Number: 1677233  Size: SH
  3. Grind flat the remainder of the stud.

  4. Object Number: 1677222  Size: SH
  5. Using a center punch, locate the center of the removed stud. Mark the center.

  6. Object Number: 1677223  Size: SH
  7. Using a 1/8 in bit, drill a pilot hole

  8. Object Number: 1677224  Size: SH
  9. Use a 1/4 in drill bit to enlarge the hole.
  10. Use a uni-bit to bevel the hole and countersink the stud. Make the base of the stud level with the tail panel surface.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1677226  Size: SH
  1. Install the replacement stud. Ensure that the collar is level to the surface of the tail panel.
  2. Important: Wrap the threads with tape to protect the threads from damage.

  3. Use vise-grip pliers to verify the fit. Hold the pliers in place.

  4. Object Number: 1677229  Size: SH
  5. Weld as necessary.

  6. Object Number: 1677231  Size: SH
  7. Grind away the excess weld. Ensure that the weld is flush with the tail panel.

  8. Object Number: 1677232  Size: SH
  9. Refinish the part as necessary.
