Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Safety Glasses Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Vehicle Lifting Caution in the Preface section.

    Important:  When a suitable hold open device is being removed or installed, provide alternate support to avoid the possibility of damage to the vehicle or personal injury.

  1. Open the rear compartment lid and hold open with a suitable brace.
  2. Remove the rear compartment floor carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement.
  3. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  4. Remove the rear bumper fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement.
  5. Remove the rear energy absorber. Refer to Rear Energy Absorber Replacement.
  6. Remove the rear bumper impact bar. Refer to Rear Bumper Impact Bar Replacement.
  7. Remove both the rear mufflers. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Left Side and Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Right Side.
  8. Remove the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Right Side and Exhaust Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side.
  9. Remove the rear bumper bracket retaining bolts (1) from the vehicle assembly (2).
  10. Remove the rear bumper bracket (3) from the vehicle assembly (2).

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 2040508  Size: SH
  1. Install the rear bumper bracket (1) into the cavity in the end of the rear chassis rail (2).
  2. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Install the rear bumper bracket retaining bolts (3) through the rear compartment floor (4), securing the rear bumper bracket to the vehicle assembly (5).
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the rear bumper bracket retaining bolts to 58 N·m (43 lb. ft).

  5. Install the exhaust muffler heat shields. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Right Side and Exhaust Muffler Heat Shield Replacement - Left Side.
  6. Install both the rear mufflers. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Left Side and Exhaust Muffler Replacement - Right Side.
  7. Install the rear bumper impact bar. Refer to Rear Bumper Impact Bar Replacement.
  8. Install the rear energy absorber. Refer to Rear Energy Absorber Replacement.
  9. Install the rear bumper fascia. Refer to Rear Bumper Fascia Replacement.
  10. Lower the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  11. Install rear compartment floor carpet. Refer to Rear Compartment Floor Panel Carpet Replacement.
  12. Remove the suitable brace and close the rear compartment lid.
