The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

As part of our ongoing quality improvement efforts regarding new components, the E-38 ECM will be placed on restriction through the PQC to assist Engineering with early product feedback. Your cooperation with this program is greatly appreciated.

Effective Friday, April 4, 2008 the following part number will be restricted: P/N 12612384

Recommendation/Instructions:

Please complete the following questionnaire before contacting the PQC at 1-866-654-7654.

E-38 ECM Questionnaire

  1. Customer Complaint (as it reads on the RO):
  2. List all active DTCs:
  3. List all DTCs in History:
  4. Does the vehicle have a recent history of low battery voltage?
  5. Has the vehicle been jump-started or has the battery recently been charged?
  6. Is the customer concern repeatable?
  7. Do the software and calibration part numbers match with TIS for this VIN?
  8. List the SI Document ID# used:
  9. Document each step of the trouble chart. Include all DVM readings:
  10. Is the ECM wiring harness routed properly and not stretched or pinched?
  11. What PIs and/or Service Bulletins were performed?
  12. Have all engine grounds been checked?
  13. Have the ECM connectors been checked for backed-out, loose, or damaged connectors/terminals?
  14. Controller scan code # (bar code on ECM):
  15. Calibration/software ID# (from Tech2):

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
