Circuit/System Description

The radio monitors the battery voltage through the battery positive voltage circuits.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The voltages supplied to the control modules are in the range of 8.5-17 V.
    • The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B1423 03

The radio detects a system voltage below 8.5 V for 5 seconds.

B1423 07

The radio detects a system voltage above 17 V for 5 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The radio immediately disables all outputs when an out of range voltage condition has been detected.
    • All radio functions are disabled.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC clears after 50 malfunction-free ignition cycles.

Diagnostic Aids

    • A high or low voltage DTC set in multiple modules indicates a concern in the charging system.
    • A possible cause of this DTC could be overcharging with a battery charger or jump starting.
    • A high or low voltage value in multiple modules indicates a concern in the charging system.
    • This DTC may be an indication that the battery supply voltage to the radio was interrupted.

Circuit/System Verification

Engine running measure and record the voltage at the battery terminals. Verify that the battery voltage is 12.5-15.5 V.

If the battery voltage is not within the specified range, refer to Charging System Test.

Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the X2 harness connector at the radio.
  2. Test less than 5 Ω between the ground circuit terminal 16 and ground.
  3. If greater than specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuits listed below and ground.
  5. • Battery Positive Voltage terminal 10
    • Battery Positive Voltage terminal 14
    • Battery Positive Voltage terminal 15
If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the appropriate B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. If all the circuits test normal, replace the radio.

Repair Instructions

Perform the Diagnostic Repair Verification after completing the diagnostic procedure.
