Removal Procedure

    Warning: Refer to Safety Glasses Warning in the Preface section.

    Warning: Refer to Brake Dust Warning in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Adding Fluid to the Brake System Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

    Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the front wheels. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  3. Clean all dirt and foreign material from the brake hose and the brake pipe fittings.

  4. Object Number: 1943715  Size: SH
  5. Detach the ABS wheel speed sensor wiring harness (5) from the brake hose retaining bracket (2).
  6. Place a clean suitable container under the brake pipe fitting (3).
  7. Note: Hold the brake hose (4) with a suitable tool whilst disconnecting the brake pipe fitting (3) to prevent damage to the brake pipe fitting (3).

  8. Disconnect the brake pipe fitting (3) from the brake hose (4).
  9. Note: Install a rubber cap or plug to the brake pipe fitting (3) in order to prevent brake fluid loss and contamination.

  10. Plug the brake pipe fitting (3).
  11. Remove the brake hose retaining bracket to wheel house retaining nut (6).
  12. Remove the brake hose retaining bracket (2) from the wheel house (1).

  14. Detach the brake hose (1) from the strut mounted brake hose retaining bracket (2).

  15. Object Number: 1943712  Size: SH
  16. Remove the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4).
  17. Remove the brake hose (2) from the brake caliper (1).
  18. Note: Install a rubber cap or plug to the brake caliper (1) in order to prevent brake fluid loss and/or contamination.

  19. Plug the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt hole in the brake caliper (1).
  20. Place a shop towel on a hard surface.
  21. Note: The copper brake hose sealing washers (3) may be stuck to the brake caliper (1) and/or the brake hose (2).

  22. Tap the threaded end of the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4) on the shop towel to remove the copper brake hose sealing washers (3) from the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4).
  23. Note: Copper brake hose sealing washers become work hardened due to the heat generated with brake applications and will not reseal. Install NEW copper brake hose sealing washers (4) whenever the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (3) is removed.

  24. Remove the 2 copper brake hose sealing washers (3).
  25. Discard the 2 copper brake hose sealing washers (3).

Installation Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Adding Fluid to the Brake System Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Components Caution in the Preface section.

    Danger: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

    Caution: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.

  1. Remove the rubber plug from the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt hole in the brake caliper.

  2. Object Number: 1943712  Size: SH
  3. Assemble the NEW copper brake hose sealing washers (3), and the brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4) to the brake hose (2).
  4. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  5. Install the brake hose (2) and brake hose to brake caliper banjo retaining bolt (4) to the brake caliper (1) and tighten to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  6. Object Number: 1943715  Size: SH
  7. Position the brake hose retaining bracket (2) to the inner skirt panel (1).
  8. Install the brake hose retaining bracket to inner skirt panel retaining nut (5).
  9. Remove the rubber cap or plug from the brake pipe fitting (3).
  10. Note: Hold the brake hose (4) with a back up spanner whilst connecting the brake pipe fitting (3) to prevent damage to the brake pipe fitting (3).

  11. Connect the brake pipe fitting (3) to the brake hose (4) and tighten to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  12. Object Number: 1943709  Size: SH

    Note: Slightly twist the brake hose (1) to enable the slot in the brake hose retaining bracket (2) to line up with the flat in the brake hose (1). Slide the brake hose (1) down the brake hose retaining bracket (2) and allow the brake hose to return to its untwisted position for positive engagement in the brake hose retaining bracket (2)

  13. Install the brake hose (1) to the strut mounted brake hose retaining bracket (2).
  14. Bleed the hydraulic brake system. Refer to Hydraulic Brake System Bleeding.
  15. Install the front wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
  16. Lower the vehicle.
